I don't know enough about SEL (social and emotional learning) programs in schools, or the research connected with them, to know if they are a waste of time or not. It does seem possible to me that if children are spending so much time in schools and other adult directed education, and therefore don't have a chance to develop social and emotional skills through the normal route of free play, then some working of deliberate skill training into the curriculum would be helpful. However, again, I just don't know enough to say that with much conviction. -Peter
