A few months ago i was invited to a conference. FWIW, the conference was hosted a by a consulting firm on behalf of Facebook. I was asked to attend and be part of a panel. I was hesitant and asked a few questions first via email. I was told that negativity would not be tolerated and I was to emphasize "positivity" at all times. This concerned me, so I held firm in my position that Facebook might be positivity-intensive by the group I represented was not positivity-focused.
I find this demand for positivity, optimism and happy face in the workplace concerning. I was relieved when I attended the conference with a number of my local colleagues and nobody even attempted to be positive or optimistic. It was a successful conference but it would have been off-putting and irritating had we all pretended to be positive.
