Thanks for your thoughtful comment. I agree that we are a fundamentally connection- and community-seeking species. But I would distinguish between loneliness, which we could describe as missing something (other people) outside of ourselves, and emptiness, which is a subjective experience of missing something on the inside. Of course, the same person can feel both, but I think they drive us toward different goals: loneliness leads us to seek others, while emptiness leads us (hopefully) to seek something inside ourselves.
