I remember now. Yes, those are part of my persona, something naive and goofy like Alfred, something exacting like the church lady, though she's pretty naive too.
In a way all of my articles are about a dimension of that. It's called ambigamy but I rarely write about sex. It's about the tension between naive escapism (what me worry) and romanticism vs. exacting hardnosed realism.
Trouble is the Church lady is hardnosed in the service of a fantasy religion. We find her bluntness charming but only in the ironic delivery. She's charming from afar. If you had to put up with a prude like that at close range, you'd find it more offputting.
