I’ve seen similar articles but I’ve never seen the answer to this question — does drugging yourself to sleep, whether it’s Benadryl or ambien or Valium or even alcohol or weed create the quality of sleep that would affect the dementia risk? I know people who swear they have to use these things and say they are partly doing it to lower their risk of dementia. But does that kind of sleep count in the same way? Surely there are differences in their sleep quality.
Also — how do we know if its a chicken or egg thing? Could it be that those who are prone to dementia are those who are prone to sleep poorly. Maybe the markers of dementia came first and caused the sleep disturbances?
