Why do some people with dementia (Lewy body) remember people they are less close to more than people they are closer to? My mother often fails to recognize me or thinks I am someone else, but then she will recognize her sister-in-law that she was not close to. She also chooses to ignore one of her sisters that she was very close to (they talked on the phone daily) when she visits. My aunt tells herself it is just the disease, but you can see that she is hurt and has a hard time missing out on interacting with her in the time my mom has left.
