I have been a psychotherapist and substance abuse counselor for 20 years and have seen the 12-step program save hundreds of lives. AA doesn't "tell" anyone to not drink. It provides support for people who've already decided to not drink. I'm wondering if you have ever been to an AA meeting.

Rehabs often don't work because although they provide a safe place for people to learn about addiction and develop some tools for recovery, they last only 3 weeks to 3 months and then people are back to the real world. I only refer people to inpatient programs when their health is at immediate risk.

I have never, in 20 years, seen moderate drinking work for an alcoholic. I'm upset that you are promoting this unsubstantiated and dangerous idea here at PT where I am also a blogger.
