Women are only more religious and more involved w/church in western christiandom. Orthodox christianity, judaism, and islam all have much more equal (or greater) participation by men.

This is not a recent development - the preacher Cotton Mather commented on the missing men issue in New England churches three hundred years ago, and it's no coincidence the US's all-male founders put freedom from religion as the first thing in the Bill of Rights.

Post-enlightenment christianity is characterized by men abandoning religion so that churches are now, as Leon Podles put it, "women's clubs with a few male officers" (-and men in dresses!). More men have moved on, women have not.
